Quzhou Yueyuan Hotel is situated on the Luming Peninsula in the heart of Quzhou city, bordered by Qujiang River to the east and Luming Mountain to the north. Nearby, the Banyan Tree and Yuechun hotels will soon merge to serve an increasingly discerning and diverse clientele. This creates a Banyan Tree hotel cluster on the peninsula that integrates public functions such as vacation and business, making it a vibrant urban oasis. As a fresh addition to the Banyan Tree family, this youthful space is flourishing here.

The hotel’s diverse and open public areas foster a shared, welcoming atmosphere aligned with Yueyuan’s unique brand positioning: “at ease with you.”

Natural Integration

Quzhou, the largest mountain city in Zhejiang, boasts a distinctive natural terrain that deeply influenced the design concept. The Yueyuan Hotel is positioned at the riverside edge of the hotel cluster, offering panoramic views of Luming Mountain and the historic city across Qujiang River. The building responds vertically to its context, capped at a height limit of 35 meters with a light, elegant form.

Its L-shaped layout separates the property into front and rear zones: guests arrive from the rear, while the lobby bar, all-day restaurant, and other social spaces open onto the front garden, seamlessly connecting with the natural surroundings.

The hotel’s 192 guest rooms are arranged primarily facing northeast and southwest, maximizing scenic views of the mountains and river. To reduce the building’s massing, a stepped-back design echoes the layered appearance of Quzhou’s mountain villages, and creates an internally elevated lobby space.

Guests experience a dynamic spatial journey—moving from dim and low areas to bright, soaring spaces—evoking the sensation of exploring the local wonder, the Longyou Grottoes.

Free and Social Experience

Addressing the multifaceted needs of young travelers, the design promotes social interaction through public spaces on the ground and top floors. The spacious all-day dining restaurant on the first floor offers an open, flowing environment, ideal for events like weddings, banquets, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Centered around a nine-story lobby, each standard floor features shared spaces of varying sizes called “Nests,” each uniquely numbered. These cozy spots may include vending machines with drinks and snacks, small exhibitions, reading areas, board games, or even cooking facilities.

Guests can enjoy self-service while relaxing according to their preferences, fostering opportunities to meet fellow travelers from around the world and share unique experiences. The rooftop offers leisure amenities such as a gym, swimming pool, bar, and observation deck, where visitors can admire mountain views and connect visually with the distant city.

Integrated Design Logic

Quzhou’s strategic location, known as the “thoroughfare of four provinces,” and its rich cultural heritage inspired the facade design, which draws on Huizhou architectural elements and reinterprets them in a modern style.

The traditional sloping roofs are transformed into floating eaves over mountain retreat platforms, reflecting the visual language of ancient villages. The western wall draws on the horsehead wall motif and incorporates stair elements to create a sculptural, inward-facing space that effectively blocks western sunlight and supports integrated concrete casting.

The structure features three large inclined steel columns supporting an upper inclined frame, with recessed guest rooms hanging below and a large horizontal entrance canopy. The construction technology simplifies the building’s complex systems into an exterior characterized by contrasting pink and black textures, evoking white spaces nestled between mountains and rivers.

Conclusion

As a new-generation hotel brand, Quzhou Yueyuan Hotel uniquely blurs the lines between urban life and nature, inspiring guests through interactive spaces. The design highlights the preferences of young travelers, offering more than just a destination—it’s a place where users create meaningful and lasting memories.
