Situated on a peninsula delta formed by the convergence of multiple rivers in the water town of Wuzhen, the Jieyu Jian Hotel offers a private and somewhat mysterious atmosphere. This unique setting creates a tranquil and introspective environment that defines the hotel’s character.
The architectural concept draws inspiration from Jiangnan’s traditional water towns, where life unfolds by the river. At the heart of the hotel lies a central courtyard spanning five levels, serving as the core around which the internal space is organized. A series of floating bridges connect guest rooms and public walkways, allowing guests to cross over and enter their rooms with a distinctive sense of travel ritual.
The guest rooms stacked on the north side of the atrium form a terraced landscape that offers guests enhanced views of the river and outdoor spaces for relaxation. On the south side, the street-facing facade is wrapped with operable aluminum-wood lattice screens, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. This design also allows soft natural light to filter in while maintaining a comfortable microclimate within the atrium.
The interior design reflects the local spatial traditions and the serene water town environment. It features natural wood finishes, handcrafted plastering by skilled artisans, custom terrazzo walls and flooring, and carefully curated artworks throughout the hotel. A sculptural spiral staircase gracefully connects the lobby to the atrium, enhancing the sense of flow within the space.
The hotel offers eight distinct room types, ranging from cozy, naturally lit singles to double rooms with stunning river views, as well as duplex suites featuring private sky gardens. On the first floor, the restaurant overlooks the peninsula’s garden landscape, providing a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor environments.
