Fashion is an expression, and at its core, space is about people. It is essential to create environments where people feel comfortable.
Enjoying natural light and scenic views allows for meaningful interaction and harmony between people and their surroundings. — Junwei Shen
This project is located in Changchun, a central city in Northeast China known as the birthplace of the Chinese automobile industry and film production. Yatai Group, the largest real estate developer in Jilin Province, has embarked on revitalizing Changchun’s commercial landscape through the Yatai New Power development.

The original building, long abandoned with a gray marble exterior and flanked by towering structures, conveyed a sense of enclosure and oppression. Designer Junwei Shen believes that commercial spaces should be open and welcoming, encouraging transparency and warmth. Inspired by the romantic spirit of this northern spring city, the team envisioned Yatai New Power as a landmark of love for Changchun.
Embracing the concept of the “Diamond Boundary,” Yatai New Power shines like a diamond amid the transportation arteries of Erdao District. It offers a vibrant, fashionable lifestyle hub for city dwellers seeking high-end quality living, providing a space where visitors can truly feel cherished.

The new building’s main facade features a crystal-clear glass curtain wall, resembling a finely cut diamond nestled between two towers. This diamond-like design is elegant, radiant, and transparent, drawing the building closer to its surroundings and inviting people to engage with it. The open design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing abundant natural light to fill the interior and enhancing the urban landscape.

To create a distinctive spatial experience, the design breaks away from the original single-courtyard layout. Using the rhythm of diamond-cut facets in the horizontal flow lines, the interior forms an irregular circular path that establishes dynamic spatial relationships. The abundant use of diamond-reflective surfaces, combined with varying colors and materials across different areas, leaves a memorable visual impact on visitors.

Vertically, a panoramic elevator connects the basement level two up to the sixth floor, while escalators link the first to third floors and third to sixth floors. This arrangement allows the indoor space to feel open and inviting. The elevator’s surface features a 30-meter high LED ice screen, projecting images into the sky and interacting with the ground-level “diamond” display. Here, creativity meets cutting-edge technology, sparking endless imagination.

The main atrium is illuminated by 760 diamond-shaped light sources that simulate natural sunlight, transforming the previously enclosed ceiling into a bright, sunlit space that captivates visitors.
The 100,000-square-meter shopping center is organized into five themed zones across seven retail floors: Time Travel, City Parlor, Love Castle, Sky Bridge, and Diamond Food. In the chilly climate of Changchun, sunlight is especially cherished. Two key areas—the Time and Space Journey and the City Living Room—offer direct sunlight, enhanced by warm wood tones that create a natural, inviting atmosphere. This reflects the ecological and fashionable design philosophy championed by the creators.

As you ascend the steps through the journey of time and space, you cross lush vertical plant walls and encounter digital art installations that fuse ecology with technology. Alternatively, you can relax on the wide steps, bask in the sunlight, and take in the city’s views.

The City Living Room, bathed in sunlight, features expansive wood and gold accents throughout, evoking warmth and affection. Towering bookshelves spanning from the second to sixth floors guide vertical movement and add a cultured ambiance. A 100-meter-long window counter offers a cozy space for reading and relaxation, welcoming both adults and children to gather, study, and enjoy.

The Love Castle and Sky Bridge, situated in the upper floors, continue the theme of love with romantic colors and an enchanting atmosphere. These spaces are designed to create surprises for those who cherish love and to extend this affectionate ambiance throughout the highest levels of the building.

The Sky Bridge linking the Love Castle serves as the emotional heart of the shopping center. From the bridge, you can admire the dazzling Love Castle and share a romantic moment by making a wish together.

The underground level connects directly to subway Line 2, ensuring strong foot traffic for the Diamond Food Collection floor. Inspired by the concept of “19-carat Taste Search,” this culinary zone emphasizes the idea that “only love and food should never be compromised.” The vivid orange diamond-shaped ceiling creates a powerful visual impact, stimulating your senses and inviting you to embark on a gourmet adventure.

Yatai New Power’s diverse scenarios have created the largest and most shared public space within Changchun’s shopping centers, embodying a commercial approach that prioritizes humanistic care.
The entire space draws inspiration from natural elements—diamonds, wood, and light—and extensively uses environmentally friendly, recyclable materials to express the design’s ecological fashion concept. Fashion is an expression, but the essence of space lies in people. Spaces should make people feel comfortable, allowing them to enjoy natural sunlight and beautiful surroundings, fostering interaction and harmony between people and the environment.
