Dongfeng Park is located in Jiangtaiwa Village, Dongfeng Township, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Nestled between the East Fourth Ring Road and the Fifth Ring Road, it forms part of Beijing’s first suburban park ring within the city’s green isolation zone. This area serves as a peaceful sanctuary amidst the bustling city. Designer Zhang Chunli aimed to create a workspace here that is close to nature, relaxing, free-spirited, and fresh, offering designers an inspiring environment for creativity.

The design prioritizes minimizing the footprint of new buildings, choosing environmentally friendly, energy-saving, and renewable materials. Construction methods are carefully selected to promote energy conservation and reduce emissions. Simultaneously, the original chaotic state of the courtyard has been restored to blend harmoniously with the surrounding park environment.

The project functions as a design studio, with the spatial layout divided into four main sections to accommodate the daily work and life needs of the designers. The entrance lobby serves as a multifunctional area for dining, refreshments, and meetings. This space can be flexibly opened or closed off with sliding doors to connect with the adjacent fitness area, making it suitable for art salons and exhibitions.
On the west side, the VIP lounge and communication area feature panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls on both the north and south sides, creating a relaxing space for socializing and conversation. The office area to the north is designed to support team collaboration.

The new building’s main structure uses a recyclable steel framework with a three-story hollow lov-E glass curtain wall. Heating and cooling are powered by an energy-efficient air source system. The exterior walls and roof are insulated with thick layers to ensure year-round energy conservation and emission reduction. Sunlight windows are installed in interior windowless rooms to reduce electricity consumption. Additionally, French windows line the south side of the open office area, allowing occupants to fully enjoy the warmth of sunlight and views of the courtyard’s natural landscape.

The courtyard on the south side of the building offers a charming space for daily relaxation and gatherings. The ground is paved with antique stone strips sourced from old Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings in Anhui Province. Original trees, flowers, and plants are preserved within the courtyard, creating a quaint and peaceful atmosphere.

Access to the rooftop is provided via a spiral staircase. The rooftop lounge, furnished with sofas and wooden planters filled with greenery, offers an ideal spot to unwind and refresh during busy workdays. Additionally, an indoor solar shower room is available for designers to use after exercising. This project is designed to become the most desirable office space for designers by emphasizing comfort and the well-being of both body and mind.
