Before arriving at the memorial hall, visitors traverse a winding mountain path and steps. The entrance plaza is divided by a diagonal walkway, where sharp geometrical patterns evoke a solemn and commemorative atmosphere. Ascending a staircase of ten steps, the surrounding granite walls gradually form a powerful, angular transition. The deep entrance and the continuously shifting stone surfaces evoke a range of emotions, inviting visitors with both hesitation and anticipation to enter the hall.

The architect skillfully employs natural light throughout the space. Thoughtfully designed window openings act as guiding signals for visitors, weaving light into the memorial hall in patterns of dots, lines, and planes. These light connections appear at various nodes along the path, guiding and enriching the visitor experience.

At the hall’s entrance, a crisscrossing grid of skylights fractures the light falling onto the main wall into dynamic patterns. The mottled interplay of light and shadow projects onto the end of the winding ramp, creating a captivating visual focal point.

Along the path, wedge-shaped windows on the roof and side walls create a linear stream of light. This slender beam pierces the darkness, offering visitors a faint glimmer of hope as they navigate the winding corridor.

At the path’s end, a full glass curtain wall in the exhibition hall offers a panoramic mountain view. This transparency brightens the interior lighting dramatically, lifting the heavy mood that visitors have carried through the journey.

The memorial hall’s primary materials—stone and glass—carry symbolic war metaphors. The thick stone walls represent obstacles and hardships, while the sharp, wedge-shaped glass surfaces on the facade slice through the mass, symbolizing breakthroughs and the opening of new paths, leading ultimately to freedom and light.

This architecture expresses strong confrontational emotions and commemorative significance through its shifts in materials and massing, creating a unique war memorial.
