Located in the Yanzi Lingnan Bu Community of Shenzhen’s Pingshan District, this project benefits from unique natural surroundings. It marks Yitian Group’s pioneering effort to develop a million-dollar smart city in Pingshan. Given the narrow site, the design must accommodate multiple functions including office space, commercial areas, and a bus terminal. The key challenge is to seamlessly integrate these complex components while respecting the regional context throughout the design process.
The building’s facade is fully opened to welcome sunlight, fresh air, and water, blending urban life with nature. This approach creates a sustainable, integrated park community that combines natural ecology, innovative urban lifestyles, and smart city technology. Centered on the concepts of “wisdom” and “ecology,” the design fosters a dialogue with Yanziling Park, establishing multi-layered green open spaces across both podium and tower levels to form a three-dimensional ecological valley.

The architectural layout respects the urban fabric by placing towers diagonally. Strategic volume cuts create a visual corridor and public axis stretching from the main road to Yanziling Park, naturally connecting the project to the park at the city interface. The commercial spaces at ground level are fully opened to sunlight and form a vibrant, green open block. Multiple green terraces combined with the surrounding natural environment establish an “ecological valley” within the city.

The design fosters connection among various functions while strengthening ties to the natural mountains. Continuous activity areas such as plazas, streets, courtyards, and landscaped spaces create a three-dimensional, diverse creative district that serves as a pedestrian pathway to Yanziling Park.

The commercial building’s top floor features an enclosed garden space with glass atrium boxes that flood the interior with natural light. This design invites visitors onto the garden terrace, creating a unique communal space. Unlike traditional enclosed malls, the commercial area embraces a “multi-level” concept that opens up the space with a series of connected experiences—plazas, streets, courtyards, and greenery. A two-story corridor links this space directly to Yanziling Park, fostering seamless interaction with nature.

Incorporating low-carbon and smart design elements into the facade, the tower uses concealed vertical strip windows and perforated aluminum panels to create a simple yet refined exterior while allowing for ventilation. The silver-gray vertical metal components, set at a distance from the glass surface, produce dynamic light and shadow effects under sunlight, contributing to a tall, powerful architectural presence.

Beneath the sleek and rational tower, the commercial facade introduces playful elements through a folded design language. By alternating aluminum and glass panels, the facade creates a dynamic visual effect that shifts between transparency and opacity when viewed from different angles.

The commercial main entrance serves as the project’s highlight. It creatively combines light guide panels with printed glass, featuring slanted shapes and vibrant nighttime lighting to present a high-tech, futuristic facade. This entrance stands out as a prominent symbol of the “smart city-state.”

For ventilation, an upper opening method facilitates the release of hot air. Design challenges related to insufficient airflow are addressed by integrating perforated aluminum panels with operable fans, creating a new ventilation approach that maintains the facade’s aesthetic integrity.

The commercial facade features a folded curtain wall, with the podium shaped as a triangle. Alternating light silver-gray aluminum panels and blue-gray glass compose the exterior. The four- to five-story folding curtain wall combined with tall floor-to-ceiling windows ensures privacy for distinctive commercial spaces while maintaining a visual connection to the urban environment, achieving a unique spatial atmosphere. The entrance—integrating light guide plates and printed glass with slanting elements and dazzling nighttime illumination—enhances the high-tech, futuristic image that defines this “smart city-state.”
