M0 land serves as a crucial platform for industrial transformation and upgrading, facilitating the transition of traditional industries toward new technologies, collaborative and integrated production spaces, and the growth of headquarters economy. We look forward to the GWP team collaborating with Dachenlin Group to design and construct the Liwan Operation Center project. This project marks a milestone as Guangzhou’s first M0 land to be completed and topped out, setting a benchmark for the development of more M0 industries.
— John Zhang, Chief Architect and Managing Partner of GWP

On September 10, 2021, the Liwan Operations Center of Dachenlin Pharmaceutical Group, designed by GWP, celebrated its topping out ceremony at the Hailong International Science and Technology Innovation Industrial Park in Liwan District. As the first project completed among Guangzhou’s initial batch of new industrial land (M0) developments, it is poised to drive the transformation and upgrading of Liwan District’s urban functions and accelerate the revitalization of the old city.

Dachenlin Pharmaceutical Group Liwan Operation Center
Leveraging the development momentum of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Liwan District has crafted a forward-looking vision and blueprint to build a modern, high-quality international metropolis core. Since its establishment, the Hailong International Science and Technology Innovation Industrial Park has been a key zone and one of the “three major development platforms” within Liwan District’s “National Central City Core Functional Zone.” It is also a leading area in the Greater Bay Area’s Guangfo Pole. The Dachenlin Pharmaceutical Group Liwan Operation Center, designed by the GWP team, stands as a showcase project within this innovative industrial park. Amidst urban transformation, it bridges diverse industries and cities, creating a dynamic dialogue between tradition and the future.

01 Dialogue with the Environment
Integrating Production and Life Like a Work of Art
Addressing the architectural needs of both people and the city is a pressing challenge for this project. As one of Liwan District’s top ten key projects and a pioneering demonstration site for Guangzhou’s new industrial land (M0), this development plays a vital role in setting a benchmark. The design draws inspiration from the development requirements of high-tech and healthcare industry platforms, adopting the concept of an “urban oasis.” This approach aims to accommodate mixed industrial functions while maximizing architectural flexibility to foster diverse integration of work and life.

Our goal is to create a vibrant urban oasis that embodies the integration of work and life through vertical green ecological architecture and innovative spatial design, offering a comfortable environment for both the team and the surrounding community.
— Ke Zhou, President of Dachenlin Investment Group
02 Resonance with the City
Urban Oasis as a New Era Innovation in Spatial Scale
Industrial building design must comprehensively consider workspace, development needs, and supporting facilities, serving as hubs for sharing, integration, and co-creation. Inspired by the concept of vertical cities and using “forest” as a design motif, this project stacks industrial and functional spaces in a staggered manner. Office, communication, and leisure areas are interwoven organically, following natural branching patterns. Green spaces extend throughout the complex, creating an innovative cultural urban oasis that serves as a natural refuge for the city and a comfortable home for its users.

03 Creating a Grand Realm
Defining a Diverse Lifestyle Paradigm
The project aims to deliver a multifunctional layout combining office and support facilities linked by dynamic shared spaces, reshaping interpersonal connections and industrial networks. The creation of a vertically integrated green park offers immersive experiences by bringing urban greenery into the site’s interior, extending from the courtyard through vertical functional blocks into multi-level interactive open sky gardens. Settled enterprises and visitors can enjoy natural leisure spaces shaded by plants and panoramic city views, fostering a tangible green and healthy living environment.

04 Interpreting the Entrance Identity
A Unique Gateway Inspired by Guangzhou’s Historic Streets
The main entrance design draws inspiration from the textures of the old city’s streets and alleys. Staggered building blocks create ventilated, shaded street spaces. The entrance features a public open square with landscaped staircases and green walls, forming a distinctive public art area. This design strengthens the connection with the western urban landscape axis and includes a sculpture representing a clinking glass scene, symbolizing integration with the city.

05 Landscape Aesthetics
Embracing the Artistic Beauty of Landscape Architecture
This project is a landscape aesthetic masterpiece, extending nature into the building through aerial terraces and rooftop gardens. The staggered green corridors on vertical facades provide multiple public spaces for relaxation, communication, recreation, and close contact with nature. By organically integrating architecture, nature, and function, visitors can enjoy scenic city views while wandering through lush greenery, creating a unique vertical ecological park for enterprises.

06 Building Sustainability
Achieving Harmony Between Humans and Nature
Resources are finite, and sustainable coexistence between humans and nature is essential. The project incorporates rooftop gardens, eco-friendly materials, solar energy, natural ventilation, regional energy conservation, and compact development to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency, ensuring sustainable building development.
