This school aptly fits the typical description of a “regional center.” It serves as the city’s downtown school and is the alma mater of many individuals who have contributed to the city’s development. The school is situated near Shimonoseki City’s distinctive landscape, with two prominent peaks — Zifeng and Zhuba Mountain — visible just ahead.

The teaching building is a three-story linear structure extending over 100 meters in length. The first floor features a visually striking facade with finely spaced cement columns set 1.8 meters apart. The third floor projects outward as a block-like concrete structure, divided into three segments.

We designed an axis highlighting the alignment between the main entrance, the adjacent sand marsh, and Tsukuba Mountain through a two-layered indentation.

Entrances and exits were placed on the west side of the teaching building, facing the main entrance road. A large folded roof was constructed in front of these access points. This structure not only welcomes students each morning but also seamlessly integrates with the adjacent existing gymnasium.

Currently, this large folded roof remains partially obscured by shadows cast from the existing sports arena. Its full architectural impact will become evident only after the old sports arena is demolished.
