This project is situated in Old Wharf Park, within Shanghai’s South Bund area, showcasing the classic Shikumen architecture that defines old Shanghai.
Due to the project’s limited space, the designer aimed to create an experience where visitors can sense the distinctive spatial rhythm of Chinese style, all framed within a modern minimalist design. The spatial flow is inspired by a rhythm of “shrinking, expanding, and shrinking again” — moving from the first floor stairs to the second-floor public area, then entering more intimate spaces. This approach intentionally avoids complexity and excessive decoration.
The color palette centers on gray and white, accented with red copper and wood tones to foster a gentle, tranquil atmosphere. The colors transition naturally throughout the space, minimizing visual distractions. On the first floor, a pure white standalone bar stands out, embodying professionalism while symbolizing the original color of tea leaves, adding a unique touch of interest.

The contrast between the gray-and-white minimalist interior and the aged, weathered artifacts creates a striking juxtaposition of character. The blend of new and old elements opens up a layered narrative of time.

The second-floor spatial design is primarily inspired by traditional Chinese courtyards, with the nave and wing rooms serving as the foundation for the space’s evolution.

The three tea art spaces each reflect distinct styles — Japanese, Tibetan, and modern. These styles are thoughtfully integrated to resonate with the habits and sense of belonging of the target customers, enhancing their overall experience.

The design extensively uses framed views, carefully combining distant and nearby facade shapes to create a sense of spatial extension throughout the environment.
