This newly built kindergarten is located in Omiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Surrounded by expansive rice fields and lush forests, the area’s rich natural environment fosters the healthy development and imaginative minds of the children. Whether experienced in person or viewed through photos, the building clearly communicates its concept: a warm and inviting greenhouse.

The building emerges naturally from the surrounding landscape, resembling a corridor elevated between the fields. It functions like a pathway through the rice paddies, illuminated by skylights that flood the interior with natural light, allowing occupants to experience nature even while indoors. The exterior mainly features metal materials, symbolizing protection for the children, while the interior uses natural materials to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere.

The dining area is framed by French windows that open onto the swimming pool terrace. This design invites natural light and fresh air inside, allowing children to enjoy their meals surrounded by nature. Inside the building, there is also a three-dimensional climbing net where children can freely play, developing their physical fitness and balance. Outside, the playground in the natural setting encourages active play and physical exercise through games.

Through thoughtful architectural design, this building stands as a harmonious element within the rice paddy landscape. It not only complements the surrounding environment but also serves as a hub for the local community. Much like a greenhouse nurturing young seedlings, it protects and warms the children, fostering their physical health and emotional growth.
