The future residents of MS Residence are a couple who embrace open-mindedness and a free-spirited lifestyle. We felt this connection from our very first meeting, which granted us considerable creative freedom during the project development. This allowed us to minimize regional constraints and explore innovative architectural possibilities.

The site is part of a shared apartment complex located about an hour’s drive from São Paulo, situated at the end of a quiet path lined with tall eucalyptus trees. The surrounding landscape is dominated by a nearby polo field, offering expansive views that stretch to distant mountain contours and forests. The plot is bordered by neighbors on only one side, while the opposite boundary adjoins a garden on a sloped public area within the development.

After analyzing the site’s conditions, we decided to elevate the residence slightly above ground level to enhance views, improve natural ventilation, and increase sunlight exposure. This elevation ensures residents enjoy panoramic vistas while preventing the building from feeling too low, given its position between the garden slope and the expansive flat polo field.

MS Residence challenges the conventional townhouse layout by reversing the typical spatial arrangement. Instead of placing living areas on the ground floor and bedrooms upstairs, private spaces like bedrooms are located on the ground floor, tucked away under cantilevered structures for privacy. The lush surrounding landscape naturally shields these private areas.

The social areas and outdoor spaces, which are the most frequently used in rural villas, are located on the upper level.

The living room, dining room, and kitchen seamlessly connect to balconies, terraces, swimming pools, and a sauna, offering breathtaking views, ample sunlight, fresh breezes, and privacy.

A spacious outdoor staircase, surrounded by reflective water features, sits at the center of the building, connecting all areas harmoniously.

The structural system uses a hybrid approach, combining reinforced concrete, metal columns, and laminated wooden panels. This design creates a clear distinction between a solid dark gray stone base and a transparent, elevated “hollow pergola” structure above.

A key feature of this project is the seamless integration of architecture, furniture design, and interior decoration. This cohesive development was made possible through close collaboration between the design team and the client throughout construction, enabling precise coordination of decorative arts and woodworking, including a custom-designed sofa for the MS Residence living room.
