Seriema House is nestled in a peaceful rural area on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte. To reach this retreat, you must cross a mountain range, marking a transition from the busy city life to a tranquil environment fully immersed in nature.

The site of this house offers two strikingly different views. On one side, an endless mountain range stretches into the distance; on the other, a dense forest teeming with lush trees surrounds the property. Positioned between this open landscape and shaded forest, the house blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The residence is named after the Serema bird, a local species that freely roams the area and inspires the spirit of this home.

Seriema House is more than just a residence; it is designed as a sanctuary for rest and relaxation. It offers spaces to read, unwind, enjoy the views, and spend quality time with friends. The homeowner’s vision was to create an environment that encourages gatherings and quiet moments alike, where architecture engages in a poetic dialogue with its occupants.

In this architecture, poetry is expressed through design. The freer the design, the deeper the poetic expression. Here, a winding wall divides the house into two distinct worlds. One side welcomes you with brightness, vibrant sounds, music, and life, allowing you to fully enjoy the open mountain views. The other side offers a meditative retreat: quiet, contemplative, and shaded by the forest, crafted for rest and reading.

The materials used in the building further strengthen its connection to the landscape. The winding walls are clad in black stone, creating a striking contrast with the white stone flooring. This home serves as both a refuge and an immersive living experience. The single material—stone—defines its character. Seriema House embodies the essence of time, rivers, mountains, and caves, ultimately standing as a poetic expression in itself.
