The Ter residence, designed by the architectural studio Mesura in Baix Empordà, Spain, is built using concrete and stone. Tile-paved steps descend gradually from the terrace down to the swimming pool area.
This “L”-shaped home is divided by an outdoor terrace that extends through the residence, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living space sheltered by the roof.

The tile steps continue down to the swimming pool area.
Set within the rolling hills of the Catalan countryside, the swimming pool is framed by earth-toned brown steps. The residence is named after the nearby Ter River, and stones sourced from both sides of the river were used in its construction.
The low outdoor area features a textured concrete base in warm yellow and red hues.

Local ceramic tiles from La Bisbal line the linear terrace and pool area, harmonizing with the arched ceiling ridges and the framed windows and doorways.
A slender black frame supports a sunshade woven from natural materials, creating a shaded outdoor space perfect for relaxing.

The sunshade offers comfortable shade to the terrace.
Mesura’s Ter residence invites its inhabitants to savor fragrant, peaceful moments.
Thanks to the Mediterranean region’s mild and pleasant climate year-round, outdoor living is a significant part of daily life. “In Spain, people often gather at home, spending most of their time in the kitchen and living room,” the studio explains. “Therefore, outdoor kitchens and living rooms are common.”

During winter, glass doors enclose the living room.
The covered porch can be enclosed with sliding glass doors, creating a sunny, sheltered living area during colder months.
“The residence can be fully enclosed or opened up,” Mesura says. “Residents can choose to enjoy distant natural views through windows or bring the outdoors inside. The indoor center and porch are adaptable, transforming into multifunctional spaces based on user needs.”

Catalan architectural style is evident in the arched ceilings.
The porch typically serves as the dining area, flanked by the kitchen on one side and the living room on the other.
An independent guest room with a separate entrance is positioned at one end of the “L”-shaped residence. On the opposite wing, three bedrooms and a bathroom are accessible via a corridor on the first floor.

The master bedroom sits beneath the Catalan-style arched ceiling on the second floor.
A staircase at one end of the house leads to the second floor, where the master bedroom is located. This bedroom is positioned under the distinctive arched ceiling, which is adorned with additional ceramic tiles.
All other areas of the Ter residence occupy a single-story volume, topped with a flat roof covered in Sedum plants, separate from the master bedroom’s vaulted space.

The flat roof is planted with Sedum succulents.

The interior design features white walls, wooden furniture, and soft natural tones, crafting a simple yet warm style.
