The Le Monde Group is a renowned French publishing conglomerate, owning several prominent publications such as Le Monde, International Newspaper, TV Panorama, La Vie, and the Huffington Post. Their newly completed Paris headquarters now shares office space with the New Observer publishing group.
Previously, these six editorial teams were scattered across Paris, but now they operate cohesively under one roof. Each publication maintains its own dedicated editorial workspace within this modern headquarters.

In these challenging times, the World News Group’s investment in its new headquarters instills greater confidence and a stronger sense of community among employees. The building offers a more dynamic workspace for the editorial teams, featuring a semi-transparent dynamic façade and a spacious public plaza that emphasize openness and accessibility.

Following the 2015 attack on the Charlie Hebdo headquarters, the World Group commissioned Snøhetta Architects alongside local firm SRA to design a new headquarters. Their primary goal was to create a building that fosters open communication between the press, the city of Paris, and its citizens.

This project directly addresses the social challenges we face today. Completed and opened this year, the headquarters provokes new ways of thinking amid the ongoing pandemic and widespread uncertainty. It explores how architecture can balance public and private spaces, the relationship between interior and exterior environments, and the interplay between transparency and ambiguity.
Snøhetta partner Kjetil Trædal Thorsen explains, “Like many of our projects, this mixed-use building explores the gaps in architectural space to better serve the public.”

The headquarters is situated near the historic Gare d’Austerlitz train station, adjacent to the Latin Quarter and the Paris Botanical Garden. Its concave exterior forms a “bridge” over the neighboring underground garage.
Two seven-story cantilevered structures flank the building, connected by a complex steel grid. Notably, the design features three distinct architectural “cuts”: the “Sky Cut” on the sloped roof with solar panels; the “Urban Cut” which recesses the building’s street-facing side; and the “Ground Cut” that creates a bridgelike space at the base for a new public plaza.

Louis Dreyfus, CEO of Le Monde Group, described the new headquarters as a historic milestone for the publishing industry. He stated, “The architecture captures our editorial aesthetic while highlighting the unique character of each newsroom.
In this era of increasing demand for high-quality information, our shared new home offers bright office spaces for 1,600 employees, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated spaces for each newsroom. This ensures all our platforms can consistently deliver cutting-edge news content, whether written or audiovisual, now and in the future.
Additionally, the interior design by Archimage creates a warm and comfortable environment, providing employees with necessary private spaces.”
