BIM Q&A | What Are the Requirements for BIM Exams?
BIM Level Examination Application Requirements:
1. College students who have completed courses on BIM-related theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
2. Professionals involved in architectural design, construction technology, and engineering project management who have mastered BIM theory and skills.
3. Individuals from the general public who have engaged in systematic self-study or participated in BIM theory and practice training.
Exam Categories and Eligibility:
(1) BIM Modeling Technology Exam:
Applicants meeting criteria 1 or 2 may register. This exam consists of three subjects: Introduction to BIM Technology, BIM Modeling Application Technology, and BIM Design & Construction Comprehensive Skills and Practice.
(2) BIM Project Management Exam:
Applicants under criteria 1 or 2 with a college degree or higher are eligible. There are two experience-based paths:
• With at least 4 years of construction technology and management experience, candidates take four subjects: Introduction to BIM Technology, BIM Modeling Application Technology, BIM Application and Project Management, and BIM Application Case Analysis.
• With at least 6 years of construction technology and management experience, including 2 years of BIM-related work, candidates take three subjects: Introduction to BIM Technology, BIM Application and Project Management, and BIM Application Case Analysis.
(3) BIM Strategic Planning Exam:
Applicants must meet criteria 1 or 2, hold a bachelor’s degree or above, have at least 6 years of experience in construction engineering, and at least 2 years in BIM-related fields. The exam covers Introduction to BIM Technology and Analysis of BIM Application Cases. After passing the theory exam, candidates participate in an on-site professional inquiry and defense with the examination expert panel.
Registration Process:
Candidates register via the National BIM Professional and Technical System Job Talent Training Engineering Comprehensive Service Platform. Before uploading photos, applicants must follow the specified photo requirements to ensure successful recognition by the platform. The steps are:
1. Register online, log in, upload a compliant photo, and pay the registration fee.
2. Complete personal information including education background and work experience.
3. Select the preferred exam location based on personal circumstances.
4. Choose exam items and subjects; the system will review qualifications within 24 hours.
5. After approval, pay exam fees via Alipay or WeChat.
Admission tickets can be printed 10 days before the exam date.

• Summer Session: April 20, 10:00 AM to May 10, 6:00 PM (annually)
• Winter Session: September 20, 10:00 AM to October 10, 6:00 PM (annually)
Exam Dates:
• Summer: Second weekend of June (annually)
• Winter: Second weekend of December (annually)
