BIM Q&A | What Are the Basic Conditions for Contours in BIM?
How do you create split contour families in Revit? You need to build a segmentation contour family that can be applied to part boundaries when dividing parts or modifying existing part divisions.
Start by clicking the File tab to create a new family.
In the New Family – Select Template File dialog, navigate up two levels until you reach the Data directory.
Then, double-click Imperial System, open the Family Template folder, select Division Profile.rft, and click Open.
This will open the plan view, which includes two reference planes. Note that no other views are available for drawing geometric shapes.
Next, go to the Create tab, select the Detail panel, choose Lines, and draw the desired contour.
To control the detail level at which the contour family appears in the project, select any line in your contour sketch, then click the Modify Lines tab, find the Visibility panel, and open Visibility Settings.
Choose the appropriate level of detail—Fine, Medium, or Coarse—and click OK.
In the Properties palette, make sure the Outline Usage parameter is set to an empty value (“”).
Finally, save your family.
