BIM Q&A: How to Model a Base Plate in BIM

BIM Q&A | How to Draw the Base Plate in BIM

Follow these steps to draw a base plate in your BIM project:

1. Open your project file and navigate to the plan view where you want to place the support.

2. Go to the Structure tab and select the Foundation panel, then choose Base Plate.

3. From the Type Chooser, select the appropriate foundation slab type.

4. Click on the Modify | Create Floor Boundary tab, then under the Draw panel, select Boundary Line. Click to pick the wall in your model. Alternatively, you can manually draw the base plate boundaries using the drawing tools found in the same Draw panel.

5. To measure the offset from the wall core, enable the Extend into Wall option on the Options Bar. Then, enter the desired offset value for the floor edge in the Offset text box.

6. Once finished, click Finish in the Modify | Create Floor Boundary tab under the Mode panel to complete the base plate drawing.
