BIM Q&A | Technical Questions on Building Families in Revit 2017:
The “Transformer Foundation 2″ family consists of two distinct shapes: a rectangular panel on top and an irregular rectangular vertebral body with a variable cross-section at the bottom. Each shape has its own set of variable parameters. When these parameters are multiplied by a scaling factor in the properties panel, the entire family can uniformly expand or contract as needed.
The current challenge is to control the scaling of both shapes using unified length, width, and height parameters. Specifically, adjusting only the three parameters—”Foundation 2 Length,” “Foundation 2 Width,” and “Foundation 2 Height”—within this family should resize the entire element accordingly. Furthermore, when this family is nested within other families, linking just these three parameters should allow for consistent resizing of the “Foundation 2” family.
