BIM Q&A | Can DWG Files Be Directly Converted into ArchiCAD Files?
There are two main ways to convert DWG files into ArchiCAD files.
The first method involves opening the DWG file directly in ArchiCAD and then saving it as an ArchiCAD file. To do this, open the File Open window, select *.dwg from the file type dropdown, and choose the desired DWG file to open.
The second method uses ArchiCAD’s built-in conversion engine to import the DWG file. This is done by opening the File Special Merge window, selecting *.dwg from the file type dropdown menu, locating the DWG file, and importing it into ArchiCAD.
The key difference between these two methods is that the first preserves the DWG file’s layers, while the second imports the DWG file as a block.
