BIM Q&A | How to Add Control Point Types to a Revit Family
Understanding how to add parameter types in Revit is essential for efficient family management.
Type parameters apply to all instances of a family type, while instance parameters affect only the selected element. For example, consider a door family with various door sizes. If all door sizes share the same material, the material parameter is a type parameter. Conversely, the size of each door is controlled by instance parameters.
1. Type Parameters: When multiple types of the same family are loaded into a project, changing the value of a type parameter updates all instances of that type simultaneously.
2. Instance Parameters: Modifying an instance parameter affects only the selected element. Other elements of the same family type remain unchanged. Note that when you create instance parameters, the parameter name is automatically appended with a default two-character suffix.
