BIM Q&A: How to Fix CAD Files Not Showing Up After Importing into Revit

BIM Q&A | How to Fix the Issue of CAD Files Not Displaying After Importing into Revit

First, I am using Revit 2011 with a CAD file. There are specific instructions for importing CAD files into Revit, which include two commands under the “Insert” tab: Link CAD and Import CAD.

Here is an image for reference—I’m not sure if you can see it clearly, as this is my first time sharing a picture.

The two commands function differently. When you Link CAD, the connection between the files is maintained. This means that if the linked CAD file is updated, those changes will automatically reflect in the Revit project. On the other hand, when you Import CAD, the CAD data becomes part of the Revit file itself, and this live connection is lost.
