BIM Q&A | How to Achieve This in Revit
When you import a model directly into the project,
the imported SAT model becomes a non-editable object linked to the import symbol, meaning you cannot modify its properties.
Additionally, it cannot be exploded because the imported object contains 3D data or points that are not decomposable; only 2D data can be exploded.
Importing into a family allows you to define types, but the model remains uneditable.
In contrast, CAD imports can be exploded; however, this requires creating three views for reconstruction within the mass family, which makes complex models impractical.
I also experimented with importing SketchUp blocks. While it is possible to generate walls by selecting lines on the volume’s faces, generating walls by selecting entire faces is not supported.
