BIM Q&A | Can Revit Simulate Loads and Calculate Stresses?
The available API interfaces primarily facilitate the import of analysis models from structural calculation software into Revit. They also allow exporting models from Revit to structural analysis programs for gravity, lateral force, and seismic load calculations.
During structural analysis and design, it is common to modify the model and element dimensions based on analysis results. These changes can be synchronized back to Revit Structure via interface files. Generally, the information that supports this interactive workflow includes component dimensions, structural element locations, materials, loads, boundary conditions, and load combinations.
Each analysis software defines models differently, so the interface files vary accordingly. Therefore, it is essential to consult the product manuals to understand which data will be exchanged for software integration and how Revit models are updated.
Many Autodesk partners have integrated Revit Structure interfaces since their first product releases. Continuous improvements to these plugins have been driven by user feedback and experience.
The table below lists all the structural analysis software compatible with Revit Structure, including download links and instructional videos (some requiring login). Users can select the tools that best suit their design requirements and workflow preferences.
