BIM Q&A | Displaying Dimension Annotations from Revit 3D Families in Projects

BIM Q&A | Can Dimension Annotations in Revit 3D Families Be Displayed in the Project?

1. When using Revit to create construction drawings, I have already developed a component family. My goal is to have the dimension annotations of this family display automatically when adding sections in the project, which would significantly improve drawing efficiency. Is this possible?

Since I wasn’t able to resolve this issue initially, I attempted a workaround involving the use of annotation families → detail families → component families → project. The idea was to manually create annotation text and dimension lines, and then use parameter sharing to enable direct drawing within the project.

After several tests, I found that transferring from detail family → project works fine: dimension lines and text annotations both display correctly in elevations and sections. However, when transferring from detail family → component family → project, only the dimension lines appear in the project elevations and sections; the text annotations do not show up. How can this be adjusted?

Note: Automatic dimension annotation is not supported in 3D views and requires manual input. Since both annotation and project families are 2D, dimensions can be displayed in those views.
