BIM Q&A: How to Model Column Foot Pads on Foundations in Revit

BIM Q&A | How to Draw Column Foot Pads on the Foundation in Revit

When creating bolt holes on the bottom plate, a common approach is to make them 1 mm in size. However, this often fails to meet the practical requirements for bolt hole usage. In some cases, the bottom plate is welded as a single piece.

Sometimes, I don’t even set up small columns—I’m just experimenting. One method involves using 5D spacing or leaving a gap around the outside of the bottom plate (refer to the steel structure design manual). Adding a pad with a diameter of D+2 can complicate column installation.

Due to frequent large errors in embedded bolts in civil engineering projects, are you specifically referring to small pads?
