BIM Q&A | Resolving the “2018 Revit Fatal Error During Drawing Process”
How to Handle the “Save Reply File” Issue
Here are several steps to address the fatal error encountered in Revit 2018:
- Check for CAD File Corruption: If the CAD file is corrupted, try using the specialized 360CAD cleaning tool found in the 360 Guard feature guide to remove any harmful elements.
- Repair the Damaged CAD File: Navigate to File > Graphic Utility > Repair in the menu bar, then select the damaged file to attempt a repair.
- Manage Large Files: Very large files may cause fatal errors due to insufficient virtual memory. Use the PU command to clean up unnecessary data within the image. While this may have limited effect, it could help improve stability.
- Limit the Number of Viewports in Layouts: Excessive viewports in a layout strain your computer’s virtual memory, leading to errors. It’s recommended to distribute viewports across multiple layouts (e.g., Layout 1, Layout 2, Layout 3, and Layout 4). Each layout should ideally have no more than six viewports open to reduce the risk of fatal errors.
