BIM Q&A | Unable to Delete Autodesk Shared AutoCAD Files – Error Message Appears Upon Deletion
What should you do in this situation? Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue.
1. Uninstall AutoCAD via Control Panel
Open the “Control Panel” and navigate to “Programs and Features” to uninstall any installed AutoCAD software. If the system prompts for a restart during the uninstallation process, restart your computer and then continue uninstalling the remaining components after reboot.
2. Remove Specific Autodesk Folders
Manually delete the following directories:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
3. Clean Autodesk Registry Entries
Open the Windows Registry Editor and delete these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Autodesk
When you encounter folders beginning with 7D2F, do not delete them immediately. First, select each 7D2F folder and check the version details on the right pane to confirm if they correspond to your installed AutoCAD version. If all 7D2F folders match the same version, you may proceed to delete all of them.
After completing these steps, close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.
Before Reinstalling AutoCAD:
Clear the contents of your temporary files folder by entering %temp% in the Run dialog and deleting its contents. Additionally, use Task Manager to end all antivirus processes temporarily to prevent interference during installation.
