BIM Q&A: How to Batch Extract Graphic Element IDs from Revit

BIM Q&A | How to Batch Extract Revit Graphic Element IDs

Looking for a quick way to extract component IDs in Revit using Dynamo? With numerous software tools linked to Revit, knowing how to retrieve component IDs can simplify many tasks.

1. After installing Dynamo, launch it along with the necessary additional modules.

2. For this example, we use curtain walls. Use the curtain wall tool to place a curtain wall element anywhere in your project.

3. In Dynamo, create and connect the nodes as shown below, then click Run. You can hover your mouse over each node to see its function, which we won’t cover in detail here. The graphic element ID is included in the comments for reference.

4. Finally, switch back to Revit and verify the extracted IDs to confirm this method works effectively.

This approach significantly reduces the tedious manual process of checking element IDs, streamlining your workflow.
