BIM Q&A: Where Is the Official Built-In Family Library Folder in Revit 2016?

BIM Q&A | Where Is the Official Built-in Family Library for Revit 2016 Located?

By default, the family library for Revit 2016 is stored in C:ProgramDataAutodesk. If your installation package does not include the family library and you installed Revit in an offline environment, the family files may not be present in this location. In that case, you will need to manually download the family files and place them in this folder. Once added, they will appear within the software.

The built-in family library often does not fully meet project requirements. When dealing with a large number of families, locating the right one can be cumbersome. To address this, many BIM users download third-party family library management plugins, such as the Revit Component Dock. These tools allow easy deployment of families into projects with a single click. Most of these plugins are free and optional to use.
