BIM Q&A | How to Fix AutoCAD’s Inability to Select Text
Recently, while working on a drawing, I noticed that some text elements could not be selected, moved, or edited. I tried reinstalling AutoCAD, switching versions, and even recreating the system, but none of these steps resolved the issue. Frustrated, I had to copy the movable parts into a new drawing and manually add the parts that couldn’t be moved. Unexpectedly, another problem arose during this process.
During this time, I searched extensively online and browsed various forums, but I couldn’t find a solution. However, today I stumbled upon a simple workaround that successfully fixed the problem, and I want to share it with you.
Solution: Switch from the Model tab to a Layout tab. Then, create a new layout and perform any random operation. Next, delete the new layout and switch back to the Model tab. After this, you should be able to select and edit text normally again.
I hope this helps you resolve the issue.
I have struggled with this problem for a long time, but here’s a slightly better method:
Press Ctrl + A to select all previously unselectable objects. You can then delete them and immediately press Ctrl + Z to undo the deletion. Finally, try selecting the objects again—they should now be selectable.
