BIM Q&A | Can Magicad Software Be Used for Civil Engineering Drawings?
Magicad is a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) modeling plugin compatible with both CAD and Revit platforms. Essentially, Magicad functions as an add-on that enhances the capabilities of these core software programs, much like other plugins such as Mold Flipping Masters, Olive Mountain Quick Mold, and Hongye BIMSpace.
Having been involved in 3D electromechanical modeling since the CAD era, Magicad has built significant advantages over the years—especially in terms of its extensive component libraries, supports, and hangers—making it unbeatable on CAD platforms. However, its presence on the Revit platform is relatively recent and less established, as it has not yet gained widespread attention or adoption.
To clarify terminology, since version 13, Magicad has integrated MEP, structural (STR), and architectural (ARC) modules into a unified platform, so the distinction between “revise” functions no longer applies.
Revit itself is Autodesk’s core modeling software. If you are wondering which solution is better, it depends on your needs: pure Revit can handle complete model building on its own, while Magicad requires either CAD or Revit as a base platform. As a plugin, Magicad offers advanced features that simplify modeling and practical applications, so the choice is not about which tool is “better” but rather what fits your workflow.
It’s important to emphasize that this is not meant to diminish Magicad’s value. Magicad is now owned by Guanglian Da and continues to support increasingly powerful domestic software development.
