BIM Q&A | Rhino Installation Fails with Error 1603: Missing .NET Framework 4.0
I’ve been trying to install Rhino, but it keeps failing. The installation log indicates that .NET Framework 4.0 needs to be downloaded. However, after downloading and installing it, I receive a message stating that the same or a higher version of .NET Framework 4.0 is already installed on this computer. Please help me! No matter what I do, Rhino just won’t install.
This issue arises because .NET Framework is not a standalone application that can be installed or uninstalled like typical software. It is a built-in Windows system feature, similar to Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer. The supported version of .NET Framework varies depending on the Windows version you are running.
You can check the installed version or enable/disable this feature by going to the Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off. Note that enabling or updating this feature may require your original Windows installation media to rewrite system files.
