BIM Q&A: Do Imported CAD Floor Plans Show Different Measurements in Revit? Expert Insights

BIM Q&A | Are the Measured Dimensions Different When Importing CAD Floor Plans into Revit? Expert Guidance

For instance, a measurement in CAD shows 1200mm, but after importing into Revit, it appears as 51300. This discrepancy often causes confusion.

First, verify whether the units in your CAD file are set to millimeters (mm) or meters (m), and confirm the scale bar—these are fundamental checks.

When importing into Revit, make sure to set the units correctly. If Revit does not automatically detect the units, manually select the appropriate unit.

To avoid scaling issues, I recommend adjusting your CAD drawing to a 1:1 scale before importing. Alternatively, after importing, you can use Revit’s scaling tools to resize the CAD drawing to the correct dimensions.
