BIM Q&A | What Should Beginners in Revit Focus On?
I recently spent some time teaching myself the basics of Revit modeling using the Mars Revit tutorial video. Starting from scratch, I learned how to create grids, elevations, walls, curtain walls, doors and windows, floor slabs, and roofs. By the end, I had built a fairly comprehensive building model, like the one below.
I feel like I’ve officially started using Revit!
However, considering how powerful Revit is, I realize that what I’ve learned so far only scratches the surface.
At this point, I’m unsure about the best way to continue learning. I am a civil engineering graduate student currently interning at a design institute. Previously, the institute needed to create Revit building models for underground utility tunnels to present to clients. Unfortunately, only a few staff members had any Revit experience, and those who did were beginners. Ultimately, we had to hire outside help to complete the work.
I believe BIM represents the future of the industry. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has even released the “2016-2020 Outline for the Development of Informationization in the Construction Industry.” Still, I often feel that what I learn can’t be applied effectively in practice, and my knowledge feels incomplete. I’ve also looked into various tutoring programs, but they don’t seem to offer more than what I’ve learned on my own.
I sincerely invite experts to share their guidance and advice. I hope this question can serve as a starting point and help other beginners like me who are eager to deepen their Revit skills but aren’t sure which direction to take.
Gift someone a rose, and its fragrance lingers in your hands. Thank you!
