BIM Q&A | What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Rhino and Maya in Architectural Design Learning? Should We Prioritize Scale Accuracy or Freedom of Form?
I am a third-year architecture undergraduate student in China. This semester, my studio instructor asked us to use Maya to shape architectural forms and spaces, emphasizing the integration of buildings with the site and landscape. However, my request to use Rhino was declined.
I have noticed that Maya seems to have limited control over scale, making it difficult to manage accurate dimensions—though this might be due to how I am using the software. Could you please advise whether Rhino combined with T-Splines is a better option for polygonal modeling in architectural design?
Additionally, if Maya is the chosen tool, do institutions like SCI-Arc have specific workflows or long-term practices to effectively control scale and ensure the software aligns with architectural design requirements?
Thank you.
