BIM Q&A | How to Decide When Transitioning from Product Development to CATIA Secondary Development?
I have spent two years working on automotive welding fixtures. During this time, I often felt lazy and encountered various challenges with the software. This led me to explore parametric modeling and CATIA secondary development. Afterward, I worked in product design for another six months. Currently, I feel somewhat resigned and uncertain about my career path.
As I look for new job opportunities, I’m torn between continuing in mechanical design or pursuing CATIA secondary development. Programming would require me to relearn skills, although I performed reasonably well in C language during college, so I still have confidence in myself.
So far, I have not received any updates from companies regarding the CATIA secondary development positions I applied for. Meanwhile, a medical device company has offered a good salary. Their previous exoskeleton project is something I have admired since college.
On the other hand, I am also very interested in CATIA secondary development. Although I lack programming experience, my extensive design background makes me optimistic about the industry’s future potential.
Both career paths have their advantages, but due to my limited perspective and current confusion, I worry about making the wrong choice. I would greatly appreciate advice from friends with relevant industry experience, especially regarding job nature, benefits, and career growth.
