BIM Q&A: How to Calculate Collision Values in CATIA?

BIM Q&A | How Does CATIA Calculate Collision Values?

How exactly does CATIA determine collision values? For instance, in one of my assemblies, I have two identical cuboids measuring 10×10×100. When I assemble them with interference, there is an overlapping volume of 10×10×10. Intuitively, I would expect the shortest collision distance to be 10, and the longest to be the diagonal length of a 10×10×10 cube.

However, CATIA’s calculation shows a result of 9.6, which I find puzzling. I have searched extensively but couldn’t find an explanation. That’s why I’m reaching out here, hoping an expert can provide some insights.
