Büro Ole Scheeren recently revealed the “Shenzhen Trend” office headquarters plan for a leading Chinese tech giant. This distinctive super office headquarters is situated at the entrance of Shenzhen Bay, southern China. Designed as a “dynamic organism,” it aims to inspire innovative office concepts and lifestyle experiences. The project has received approval from the Mayor of Shenzhen and the urban planning authorities.

As part of ZTE’s new headquarters, the “Shenzhen Trend” designed by Orel Scherer represents a flexible, forward-thinking model for urban offices in a post-COVID-19 world. The building is elevated above ground level, envisioning what future office spaces might become. Its architecture integrates seamlessly with the city, fostering a connection with the local community and responding thoughtfully to the surrounding environment.

Suspended above the city streets, the building creates a new public square beneath its elevated volume. This square connects the waterfront with the urban fabric behind it, revitalizing vital public spaces within the city. Adjacent to the square, a landscaped hill and circular theater form a “cultural node” that channels light, activity, and people to the ground floor, which houses exhibition areas and cafés.

The building embodies the company’s culture of interactive innovation, offering spaces for formal and informal work, research, creativity, and relaxation. A winding, sloping “wave” runs through the structure, connecting multiple floors while rising from the ground and extending through the roof to the summit. This feature acts as an open experiential pathway for natural light, views, and pedestrian flow, encouraging spontaneous encounters among employees throughout the building.

The lobby node on the first floor serves as the main entrance and connects to the club node located at the building’s rooftop via a sloping atrium that follows the wave’s peak. This rooftop space, known as the ZTE Club, is bathed in natural light and designed for individuals and groups to meet, relax, or socialize. Complementing this, a gym, café, and bar with a rooftop terrace are nestled amid tropical plants, creating a vibrant, welcoming environment.

Inside, expansive open floors—each larger than a football field—are stacked and shaped to create a versatile “working stack.” Every floor can be freely divided, planned, and adapted to maximize different work environment possibilities. The connecting “waves” traverse the floors, linking outdoor terraces that seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces.
