The Nanhan Erling Museum is situated in the Nanhan Erling Site Park within Guangzhou University City on Xiaoguwei Island. The park is built along the mountainside to protect the Kangling Mausoleum and exhibit unearthed cultural relics. It highlights over two thousand years of Guangzhou’s development history, serving as a cultural landmark for the city.

The museum’s design follows the architectural layout of the Tang Dynasty, featuring a symmetrical arrangement of three halls, sunken courtyards, corridors, and corner pavilions. The enclosed structure creates a multi-level courtyard with varied scale and spatial flow. The museum complex aligns its axis parallel to the original spatial axis of Kangling, establishing a cohesive and unified order.

The architects employed abstract techniques to reinterpret traditional structural forms, allowing the elegance of Tang-style ancient architecture to be consistently reflected both inside and outside the building. Using the proportional relationships of ancient architecture, horizontal and vertical lines were extracted and integrated to achieve a harmonious balance between function and form.

The main structure features a dark gray glass curtain wall paired with dark red aluminum alloy eaves. The large plaza and building base use white granite, creating a striking contrast with the dark gray facade. This design evokes Tang-style ancient charm while expressing a stable and understated presence.
