The Donghe Station, built in the 1990s, was once a lively hub filled with bustling crowds, loud announcements, and vendors weaving through the throng. It holds countless memories for the people of Ganzhou.
With the city’s growth and transformation, the station officially closed in 2018.
This project breathes new life into the previously neglected station, reintroducing it to the public in a completely revitalized form.

Over its 30 years of operation, Donghe Station witnessed many changes, leaving behind valuable traces of time alongside signs of decline and neglect.
When Woye Space took on the renovation, the station had been abandoned for over a year. Our goal was to preserve the station’s original architectural features and atmosphere as much as possible, while highlighting the unique vibrancy and spirit of the late 20th century.

Inside the station is the Qiankun Game Hall.
The station offers two levels of usable space, including outdoor areas. The first floor is spacious and square-shaped. Utilizing the existing abandoned walls as a base, we constructed a box-shaped volume and added staircases to connect to the second floor. The design draws inspiration from the renowned artist Escher’s concept of “Infinite Space,” symbolizing a journey toward the future, ascending layer by layer.

Visitors climbing the stairs are often struck by a sense of revelation. The expansive atrium offers unobstructed views of the entire venue.
The boxed spaces divide the area, featuring specialty tea from Ganzhou and Huangyuan rice fruit performance zones on either side. Dining seats are arranged around the performance stage, allowing guests to enjoy the shows from every angle.

The 1990s retro style remains popular thanks to its strong sense of nostalgia and cultural significance.
In terms of spatial design, we incorporated iconic elements like dance halls, dance floors, and theater stages to evoke shared memories of that era.
Vintage items such as tricycles, accordions, and enamel cups help immerse visitors in the past.
