This project is an enhanced version of Niu NEW Shouxi Shao’s “Palace Pavilion” located at Raffles City in Pudong District, Shanghai.
‘Void and Reality’
Shopping mall spaces often face various constraints such as floor height, area, and existing fixtures. To overcome these, we introduced the concept of a “Starry Sky Ceiling” to the space, creating a visual illusion that makes diners feel as though they are under an open night sky.
The expansive starry sky combined with the layered and staggered pavilion structures offers a surreal visual experience, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. This is precisely the atmosphere we aim to create for guests.
Beyond providing basic comfort and privacy, the dining space invites exploration and reflection on aesthetics, design, and lifestyle.
Market and Pavilions
Amidst a vibrant blend of green, orange, and red, the market buzzes with the movement of people and cars.
Folk market culture has a rich history, and we sought to capture its lively and colorful essence in this project by introducing the concept of “Dew City,” exclusive to the night.
The “Dew Collection” awakens before dawn, connecting visually with the starry sky above.
To expand the visual boundary, we incorporated an original Tang-style palace gate beside the market, featuring low flower windows and wooden grilles that spiral upward, creating a rich and layered spatial experience.
Guests wander through winding corridors, as if strolling between fairy tales and reality beneath the glowing stars.
Light and Growth
We extensively employed secondary light sources such as film and strip lights to create a soft, dreamlike atmosphere.
The plants grow organically along the space, while the layered pavilions, dim lighting, and starry sky combine to offer a unique and enchanting experience in “Niu NEW Shouxi Burn.”
