How to Handle Modifications to DWG Files Not Reflected in Your Revit Project
After linking a DWG file to your Revit project, you might notice that changes made to the file in AutoCAD are not showing up in Revit. This issue can occur for several reasons:
1. The linked DWG file was modified while the Revit project was still open.
To fix this, you need to reload the linked file. In Revit, go to the Manage tab, then click Manage Links in the Manage Projects panel. In the Manage Links dialog box, switch to the CAD Formats tab, select the linked DWG file from the list, and click Reload. Confirm your action, and Revit will update the project with the latest saved version of the linked file.
2. The DWG file was imported instead of linked.
Unlike linked files, imported DWG files do not update when changes are made to the original AutoCAD file. To check whether your file is linked or imported, open the Manage Links dialog (under the Manage tab and Manage Projects panel). On the CAD Formats tab, only linked files appear. If your DWG file is not listed, it means the file was imported.
To resolve this, delete the imported DWG from the view by selecting it and pressing the Delete key. Then, re-link the DWG file instead of importing it to ensure future updates are reflected.
3. Revit cannot locate the linked DWG file because it was moved.
If the linked file has been moved or renamed, Revit will be unable to find it and therefore cannot update to the latest version. To reload the file from a new location, use the Reload From option within the Manage Links dialog box to specify the correct path.
