Method for Managing Overlapping Symbols of Revit Graphic Elements in Plans
When placing components in Revit, the plan symbols of adjacent elements or those positioned at different heights but the same location often overlap, which can negatively impact the clarity of your drawings. How can this issue be resolved?
Without altering the actual position of the component, you can adjust the position of the 2D symbol lines to improve the drawing’s appearance. Here’s how to do it:
First, select the component and click Edit Family to enter the family editing environment.
Next, open the Reference Elevation and create a plan view. Using the Annotation tab, apply the Align tool to align the symbol line with a reference plane. Then, annotate the distance from the reference plane to the centerline, adding a dimension label parameter to control this distance. Name this parameter Symbol offset.
After locking a segment of the symbol line to the reference plane, load the family back into the project. You can then input numerical values for the Symbol offset parameter to adjust the symbol’s position while keeping the component itself fixed.
