How to Set the View Range of Linked Files Separately in Revit
When working on mechanical and electrical engineering drawings, the building structure model is often imported into the project as a linked file to serve as a reference base for annotations. However, it is usually unnecessary to display all elements of the linked model. To control visibility, adjusting the view range is essential, but this can conflict with the project’s own view range settings. So, how can you set the view range of the linked model independently?
First, adjust the view range settings for each floor in the building structure model. Once configured, link this model to the mechanical and electrical project.
Next, open the Visibility/Graphics dialog box, then switch to the Revit Links tab. Locate the linked file, and click the Display Settings button below. Select By Host View to open the Revit Link Display Settings dialog.
In the Basic tab, choose Custom, then find the View Range section. Change the setting from Use Host View to Use Linked View, and click OK to apply the changes.
Now, in the plan view, you will notice that the linked model’s view range is controlled by its own settings and is no longer affected by the host project’s view range.
