How to Accurately Calculate Quantities for Revit Staircase Projects

How to Calculate the Quantity of Revit Staircase Engineering

When creating a staircase schedule in Revit, you may notice that there is no available field for “Volume.” So, how can you calculate the volume of stairs within this field?

First, create a staircase and click the Edit Type button in the properties bar to open the Type Properties dialog box. Then, under the Construction section, locate Stairway Type and click the small button at the end to open the Stair Run Type Properties dialog box. Here, assign a material to the stair run.

Next, use the Material Takeoff tool in the schedules to find the stairs category. Select the Material: Volume field and click OK to create a Stair Material Takeoff. This detailed schedule will allow you to calculate the volume of the stairs based on material extraction.

Note: The Material: Volume field for stairs includes all components such as treads, risers, landings, and supports (left, middle, right). If different materials are specified for these components, their volumes will be calculated separately and summed.
