How to Use Curtain Walls to Create Tiled Roofs in Revit
During a project, you may encounter simple yet repetitive tasks, such as placing roof tiles. So, how can you efficiently manage these tasks?
1. First, create a tile family as a backup. Open the Metric Profile – Mullion family template and draw the tile profile as shown in the image.
2. Start a new project and use the Footprint Roof tool to draw a rectangular sloping roof. Then, change its properties to a glass sloping window, as illustrated.
3. Load the tile family into the project. Under the Architecture tab, select Mullion and edit the rectangular mullion. Change the mullion type to tile and update the profile to the tile family you created (Family 1), as demonstrated.
4. Select the glass sloped window and set the grid to fixed distance. Adjust Grid 1 spacing to 200 and Grid 2 spacing to 500. Then modify the vertical column of Grid 1 by changing its Internal Type to the tile family you just created, as shown below.
5. After confirming these settings, you will see the tiled roof effect as depicted.
Summary: When you face numerous simple component placements, creating custom families and coordinating them with system components allows you to quickly generate them, saving time and avoiding tedious manual placement.
