How to Correct an Incorrect Revit Piping System Classification
As discussed in the previous article, system classification in Revit is a default software parameter that cannot be created or modified directly. There are 11 classifications available for piping systems and 3 for duct systems. Instead, you create specific system types based on these predefined classifications for your projects.
The system classification must be assigned before drawing any graphic elements. But what if you forget or select the wrong classification? Is it possible to change it afterward? Yes, it is.
For example, if your current duct system is classified as Return Air but you want to change it to Exhaust, follow these steps:
First, delete any segment of the existing duct. Then, reset the system classification to Exhaust and redraw the duct in the deleted location.
After redrawing, press the TAB key to select the original Return Air system and delete it.
Once deleted, all connected duct segments will belong to the new Exhaust system. However, if any connected devices belong to other systems, you will need to replace them with devices from the Exhaust system using the same process. This ensures the entire system classification is updated correctly.
