The “Hengshan House,” designed by Polish architect Bartosz Domiczek, is a residential project built on the site of a historic farm warehouse. The original structure’s dilapidated shell, characterized by radial planes and curved arches, forms the foundation for the new construction. This modern residence is thoughtfully embedded within the old framework, creating a serene and commemorative space that faces an olive grove on a distant hillside. The rough stone materiality of the curved arcade facade emphasizes the connection to the past. Portions of the original shell have been carefully restored and serve as anchors for the newly organized interior spaces.

As both an architect and visual designer, Bartosz Domiczek envisioned the Hengshan House by blending raw and modern materials. The abandoned walls of the historic arcade frame and divide views of the surrounding landscape, evoking a sense of ruins on the site. Walking along the curved corridor between the new interior and the original structure, residents experience the external landscape as if it were a cinematic screen. The space between these two elements is defined by the structural division, enclosing a small central courtyard and extending beneath the excavated slope to create additional functional areas.
