Also known as zero energy buildings, these structures do not consume conventional energy. Instead, they rely entirely on solar power or other renewable energy sources. From energy-efficient buildings and green architecture to ecological designs and sustainability initiatives—including recent low-carbon efforts—the shared goal is to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Zero energy buildings operate normally without depending on non-renewable energy sources such as coal, oil, or electricity. Their defining characteristic is a strong emphasis on passive energy-saving designs in the building envelope. Additionally, they shift their energy demand toward renewable sources like solar, wind, shallow geothermal, and biomass energy.
