Exporting a Walkthrough or Solar Study in Revit Results in a Blank .avi File
Issue:
When exporting a walkthrough from Revit, the video compression dialog does not appear. As a result, an empty .avi file with a size of 0 MB is generated, and the file cannot be opened.
Causes:
This issue can occur due to several reasons:
- No video codec is installed on the system. Revit skips the codec selection step during export if none are found.
- The Logitech webcam software installed on the system has expired.
- Conflicts arise from certain installed codecs interfering with the codec Revit requires for exporting video files.
Solutions:
Try the following steps to resolve the problem:
- Verify if the system has video codecs installed. If not, install an appropriate codec package.
- Note: For guidance, see: How to Identify Installed Codecs on Your PC
- Update the Logitech webcam software to the latest version.
- If updating is not possible, try manually disabling the Logitech module by renaming the file
C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32lvcod64.dlltoC:WINDOWSSYSTEM32_lvcod64.dll. - Download InstalledCodec.exe from Nirsoft. Use it to disable all unused codecs, then enable the following codecs:
- Microsoft Video 1 Compressor
- Microsoft UYVY Video Decompressor
